Ocean Rapids is affiliated to Kenya Rafting Federation – provides quality life-jacket hire and professional water-safety support to schools, academic institutions, incentive and corporate groups, family holidaymakers along the Kenyan Coast; Diani, Watamu and Mombasa.
Please note Rapids Camp Sagana is operating at the Kenyan Coast as Ocean Rapids.
Ocean Rapids Guarantees:-
- Ocean safety before activity.
We do debriefs before activities and ensure every adventurer is insured.
Our ocean activities packages are insured and safety is guaranteed.
- Quality and properly maintained equipment:-
Families and individual holiday makers similarly require access to reliable safety equipment when participating in water-based recreation.
Despite the importance of water safety, access to quality, properly maintained and appropriately sized life jackets can be inconsistent.
Rapids Camp is therefore well positioned to fill this gap by bringing its existing outdoor-safety experience and operational standards to the Coast.

We have trained personnel, wilderness and ocean first aid certified to support safe water-based recreational activities at the Kenyan Coast,
Where guided activities are required, Ocean Rapids works with appropriately trained guides, including guides trained through United Rafting and the International Canoe Federation (ICF), to provide ocean safety briefings before activities and debriefings afterwards. (We understand the Ocean Tides).

Life-Jacket Hire for Individuals,
Groups and Institutions
A. MAZOEZI PACKAGE – From Ksh 1,500
Ocean Rapids maintain a stock of quality life jackets in different sizes suitable for individuals, small groups below 15 pax and families:
The equipment is inspected, cleaned, maintained and appropriately stored after use.
The package’s cost between Ksh 1,500 and Ksh 2,000 per day depending on time and location of the ocean e.g. deep sea or activities along ocean riparian.
B. MADARAKA PACKAGE – From Ksh 1,000
Life jackets will be available for hire to big groups and institutions:
- Primary and secondary schools
- Universities and colleges
- Training institutions
- CBE and International Schools
- Corporate organisations
- Incentive groups
- Youth groups
- NGOs and community organisations
- Tour operators
- Hotels and resorts
- Holiday makers

B. MAJUU PACKAGE – International Travelers and Non Residence (From $35)

Safety Personnel
and Guides
Where requested, Ocean Rapids can provide trained personnel to support activities.
Our guides/personnel are appropriately trained and/or certified, by relevant United Rafting and ICF training, according to the nature of the activity.
Their responsibilities includes:
- Pre-activity safety briefing
- Correct fitting of life jackets
- Basic ocean/water-safety instructions
- Activity supervision within their assigned responsibility in Diani, Mombasa & Watamu
- Identification of potential hazards
- Post-activity debrief
- Reporting of incidents or equipment concerns
Open Water/Ocean
Safety Management
Safety will be the central feature of the Coast branch rather than simply an additional service.
Every hire should be supported by clear procedures for:
1. Equipment inspection before issue.
2. Correct selection of life-jacket size.
3. Proper fitting.
4. Customer/user briefing.
5. Activity-specific safety instructions.
6. Equipment inspection after return.
7. Cleaning and appropriate storage.
8. Recording of damaged or defective equipment.
9. Incident and near-miss reporting.
10. Safety hazards Identifying.
For guided activities, a pre-activity briefing and post-activity debrief should be standard practice.
The briefing should cover, as applicable:
Correct use of the life jacket
Expected behaviour
Water hazards
What to do in an emergency
Group instructions
Guide commands
Activity-specific risks
The exact safety procedures should be documented in a Coast Branch Standard Operating Procedure
(SOP) before commercial operations begin.
Ocean Equipment
Management
The reputation of the service depends heavily on the quality and condition of the equipment.
Ocean Rapids establish an equipment register containing:
- Equipment identification number
- Size
- Type
- Date acquired
- Condition
- Inspection history
- Repairs
- Retirement/replacement date
Each life jacket undergoes routine inspection.
Damaged, excessively worn or otherwise unsuitable equipment are immediately removed from service.
This reinforces the Ocean Rapids promise of quality and safety first.
Insurance and
Risk Management
Ocean Rapids already maintains a public liability insurance policy to guarantee your safety.
The policy can be extended or otherwise structured to cover:
- The Coast branch
- Life-jacket hire operations
- Approved guided activities
- Relevant locations
- Employees and guides
- Equipment-related risks
- Customer participation within the defined scope of operations
We do not assume that the existing policy automatically covers new activities, equipment hire or additional geographical areas.
Additional risk-management measures should include:
- Written operating procedures
- Staff competency records
- Equipment inspection records
- Customer terms and conditions
- Incident reporting
- Emergency contacts and procedures
- Appropriate waivers/acknowledgements where legally appropriate
- Regular staff safety training
